RP has $6.3 B for external debt servicing

MANILA, Philippines  – The country has an external or foreign exchange requirements for debt servicing this year of $6.27 billion, of which $2.3 billion will be paid through domestic market borrowings, data from the central bank show.

German shipping firms still hiring new Filipino workers

MANILA, Philippines (September 29, 2009) - German shipping firms are still hiring new Filipino workers in spite of the effects of the global financial crisis, a ranking official said.

German Ambassador to the Philippines Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lorstch said that as far as he knows, German shipping firms are still hiring and training people. He noted that the job market in Germany is still open for Filipino workers.

RP loses $10 billion in export earnings in 7 months

MANILA, Philippines - Foregone dollar earnings for the first seven months of this year have hit $10 billion, as most of the country’s major markets continued their slow demand, July export data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) had shown.

In the seven-month period, the biggest loser was the electronics industry, shedding $17 billion with sales of only $11.67 billion against $17.69 billion from January to July last year or a decline of 34.04 percent.
